  • Tracy Dennison is Professor of Social Science History at the California Institute of Technology. Her research focuses on institutions and economic development in the past, especially in eastern Europe. Her book, The Institutional Framework of Russian Serfdom, was published in 2011 by Cambridge University Press.
Tracy Dennison’s presentation examines the ways in which economic and social historians have addressed questions related to time, including how ordinary people have understood and measured time in the pre-modern period, and the sources historians have used to shed light on this subject. Special attention will be given to changes – technological, economic, and social – associated with the Industrial Revolution.
